Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey said suspicious packages were reported on the installation, but later determined not to pose a threat.

The base said Tuesday afternoon that it was at FPCON CHARLIE, a heightened force protection condition that puts increased security measures in place following reports of multiple suspicious packages.

In an update posted at 4:34 p.m. ET, the base said that Security Forces and first responders responded immediately, secured the area and determined the packages posed no threat. It was not immediately clear what the packages contained.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is a large U.S. military installation in central New Jersey that brings together Air Force, Army and Navy operations. It serves as a major hub for air mobility and training.

The base did not say where on the installation the packages were found or whether any areas were evacuated or temporarily closed.
