American Airlines 737 found with bullet hole after Miami flight to Colombia
An American Airlines Boeing 737 was found with an apparent bullet hole in a wing control surface after landing in Medellín, Colombia, according to CBS News. The damage was discovered after the aircraft arrived from Miami.
Flight 923 from Miami landed in Medellín late Sunday night, and a post-flight inspection revealed damage to the right wing aileron, with holes on both the top and bottom consistent with a possible bullet entry and exit point, CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave reported.
Temporary repairs were completed overnight into Monday, allowing the aircraft to operate its scheduled return flight to the U.S. The jet is now undergoing further repairs.
“Following a routine inspection, our teams identified a puncture to the exterior of one of our aircraft in Medellín, Colombia,” AA said in a statement shared by Van Cleave. “The aircraft was immediately removed from service for further inspection and repair.”
The airline said there were no injuries and no flight-related issues. The incident was first reported by aviation-focused account xJonNYC on X.
It was not immediately clear when or where the damage occurred. American Airlines said it will work with relevant authorities to investigate the incident.
