Democratic lawmaker says shooting masked ICE agents could be ’justified’; Judge blocks detention visit rule
In this Media Miss Minute, Vice President JD Vance fires back at a New York lawmaker who said Americans would be “justified” in shooting some Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Meanwhile, a federal judge blocked a Trump administration effort to require advance notice before lawmakers visit certain immigrant detention facilities.
Media Miss by the right: Lawmaker says shooting some ICE agents would be ‘justified’
Vance is blasting U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., after Nadler said shooting some immigration enforcement officers — whom he referred to as “masked hoodlums” — would be justified.
“If you were attacked by a masked person, you might think you were being kidnapped,” Nadler said during a House Judiciary Committee meeting on Tuesday. “You would be justified in shooting the person to protect yourself.”
Vance responded by sharing a video of Nadler’s remarks on social media, calling the comments “openly calling for people to shoot federal law enforcement” and labeling them “despicable behavior from an elected official.”
Media Miss by the right: Judge blocks limits on lawmakers’ access to ICE facilities
A federal judge granted a temporary restraining order blocking the Department of Homeland Security’s seven-day notice rule for visits to certain immigrant detention facilities.
The rule would have required lawmakers to give DHS at least one week’s notice before touring immigrant detention facilities funded by the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” or visiting people being held there.
The rule does not apply to facilities funded by DHS’ annual appropriations package.
A group of House Democrats sued to block the rule, arguing it would be nearly impossible for lawmakers to determine which facilities fall under the rule and which do not.
