Venezuela’s President Delcy Rodríguez set to visit Washington
Venezuela’s newly appointed president Delcy Rodríguez plans to visit Washington at an unspecified date, Telemundo reported, citing a White House official.
Telemundo reported Wednesday that the timing and agenda of Rodríguez’s trip have not been disclosed. The visit comes as U.S. President Trump has said Venezuelan authorities are complying with U.S. requirements, including measures related to oil access.
The planned visit follows the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife by U.S. forces during a U.S. operation in Venezuela. Since then, the Trump administration has opened dialogue with Rodríguez, who previously served as Maduro’s vice president.
Last week, Trump met at the White House with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who presented him with a Nobel Peace Prize medal as a symbolic gesture. Machado said the presentation was meant to reflect historical ties between Venezuela and the United States and shared struggles for freedom.
Trump accepted the medal during the meeting, according to Fox News. Officials did not disclose details of the discussions, and it was not clear whether a potential political transition in Venezuela was addressed.
