DOJ investigating Walz, Frey over impeding immigration enforcement
The U.S. Justice Department is investigating Minnesota officials, including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, over allegations they impeded federal immigration agents, according to CBS News.
The reported inquiry comes as Minnesota and leaders in Minneapolis and St. Paul remain at odds with the Trump administration over federal immigration enforcement activity in the state, following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good.
CBS News correspondent Jennifer Jacobs reported on Friday that the Justice Department has opened an investigation into whether Walz, Frey and other Minnesota officials interfered with federal immigration operations.
The development follows President Trump’s warning that he could invoke the Insurrection Act if Minnesota officials do not stop what he described as attacks on federal immigration officers.
Minnesota, joined by the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, has sued the Department of Homeland Security, alleging unconstitutional conduct tied to a large-scale deployment of federal law enforcement agents across the state. State and city officials argue Minnesota is being singled out for political reasons.
