At least two people were killed when a construction crane collapsed onto vehicles in Thailand, according to officials and local media reports. The incident occurred less than a day after a separate crane collapse struck a passenger train elsewhere in Thailand, killing dozens.

The latest collapse happened on Thursday morning in Samut Sakhon, on the outskirts of Bangkok, when a crane operating at an overpass construction site fell onto vehicles traveling along a roadway below, firefighters and local media said.

Preliminary information indicates that at least two people were killed and five others were injured after several vehicles were crushed by the falling crane, according to officials cited by local media.

The collapse was not immediately known. The crane was operating as part of an expressway bridge construction project at the time of the incident.

The incident came hours after another crane collapse near the town of Sikhio, where a construction crane fell onto a passenger train carrying more than 170 people beneath a high-speed rail construction site.

That earlier incident killed at least 32 people and injured more than 60 others after the crane struck the train and sparked a fire, officials said.
