Former reality television star Spencer Pratt has announced he’s running for Los Angeles’ next mayor. It comes a year after his home was gutted by the Pacific Palisades fire.
Pratt said the city’s painfully slow rebuilding process prompted him to act.
He and his wife, fellow former reality star Heidi Montag, rose to fame on reality shows including “The Hills,” ” I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ and the United Kingdom’s version of “Celebrity Big Brother.”

Pratt documented the destruction of their Santa Monica-area home as the fire tore through the neighborhood. Since then, he’s become an outspoken critic of the response and the red tape surrounding recovery efforts.
He has placed the blame at both California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
“Despite record-breaking cleanup by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the Army Corps of Engineers and despite nearly $4 billion in loans approved by the SBA (Small Business Administration), most fire victims cannot rebuild due to building permits and city regulations. This isn’t just a political failure, it’s a moral one,” Pratt told the crowd at a “They Let Us Burn” rally by the Palisades Fire Residents Coalition to mark one year since the blaze.

Pratt is suing the City of Los Angeles and DWP for alleged mismanagement, while also publicly advocating for accountability from officials like California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the Palisades fire, which destroyed thousands of homes in the tight-knit community. He added, “I have realized that the city I love is being managed into the ground by people who don’t have the courage to actually lead.”
The Los Angeles mayoral primary is set for June. Bass and more than a dozen other candidates are already in the race.
