Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has addressed one of the most controversial moments in her tense history with President Donald Trump: the night she ripped up his 2020 State of the Union address on live television.

While critics have long described the move as a deliberate act of disrespect, Pelosi told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl that it was a spontaneous reaction to Trump’s remarks, not a premeditated statement.

“I didn’t intend to go to the speech to tear it up, but I just — the first part of it, I tore a page because he was lying,” she said. “And then the next page, and then the next page.”

Media Miss by the right: Ukraine accuses Russia of executing prisoners of war

As Trump continues to push for a negotiated end to the war in Ukraine, Kyiv has accused Moscow of war crimes

Ukrainian officials and families of soldiers say there is evidence that Russian forces have executed Ukrainian prisoners of war — a violation of international law. They claim that some of the killings were captured on video by both Ukrainian forces and Russian surveillance drones.

Ukrainian authorities say they believe Russian forces have executed at least 147 Ukrainian prisoners of war since the start of the invasion in February 2022, including 127 deaths reported this year alone.

Under international law, including the Geneva Conventions, the execution of prisoners of war is considered a war crime.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied the allegations.
