Fire destroys dozens of stalls at market in Honduras; several injured
A large fire destroyed dozens of stalls at a market in northern Honduras, injuring several people, according to local media reports.
The fire broke out at the Medina Concepción market in San Pedro Sula, a major city in northern Honduras near the Caribbean coast. Authorities believe the fire began in an area of the market where fireworks were being sold.
The fire spread quickly through the market, destroying dozens of stands. Local media reports said between 50 and up to 100 stalls were affected, though officials have not released an official figure.
Broadcaster HCH reported that at least two children and a pregnant woman were taken to a local hospital with severe burns. Authorities also reported additional injuries from smoke inhalation, though an exact count has not been released.
Videos recorded at the scene showed fireworks exploding as the fire spread, with large numbers of police officers and emergency responders deployed to the area. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the fire.
