Poll reveals America’s doubt in both parties, disapproval of Trump
Midterm elections are one year out, and a new Washington Post-ABC News-IPSOs poll shows that most Americans disapprove of how President Donald Trump is handling his job. Voters gave him especially low marks on the economy.
Fifty-nine percent of those polled say they disapprove of Trump’s performance as president, the highest level since the start of his second term. Regarding the economy, 62% rate his performance poorly, and 65% of respondents disapprove of his tariffs on imported goods.
The poll also found that 64% of Americans believe Trump has gone too far in trying to expand the presidency’s power, reflecting unease with his use of executive orders and sweeping policy changes.
The numbers are similar to those of a CNN poll, which found Trump’s disapproval rating to be around 63%, while his approval rating sits at 37%.
What the poll said about Democrats
The Washington Post-ABC News-IPSOs poll also looked at Democratic support.
68% of voters say the Democratic Party is “out of touch” with most Americans. That number is slightly higher than those who say the same of Trump or the GOP.
With the 2026 midterms a year away, the poll suggests voters are frustrated with both parties and skeptical that Washington is listening.
The survey was conducted Oct. 24-28, with more than 2,700 adults participating. It also polled voters on Trump’s immigration policy, his handling of the Israel-Hamas war, national guard deployments and the government shutdown.
