At least 2 dead, 11 injured in North Carolina mass shooting
At least two people are dead and eleven are injured following a mass shooting at a large party in rural North Carolina, the county sheriff’s office announced via social media Saturday morning. The incident comes almost one month to the day after a mass shooting killed three people at a popular restaurant along North Carolina’s waterfront.
‘No threat to the community’
Investigators working alongside the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office are looking into a mass shooting at a large party outside Maxton, North Carolina, roughly 100 miles southeast of Charlotte. In a statement posted to its official Facebook account, the sheriff’s office said that 13 people were shot. Two people were confirmed dead, and several others are critically injured.
“There is no current threat to the community as this appears to have been an isolated incident,” the agency, led by Sheriff Burnis Wilkins, added. According to authorities, as many as 150 people fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
“Additional information will be released as it becomes available,” the office wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”
2 shootings in 1 month
The shooting in Maxton comes almost one month to the day after a self-described “combat veteran” opened fire on a popular waterfront restaurant in North Carolina’s Southport community.
Around 9:30 p.m. local time on Sept. 27, authorities responded to an active shooter call at the American Fish Company. The suspect, 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge, reportedly pulled up in a boat alongside the restaurant on Cape Fear River before opening fire. Three people were killed and five others were injured.
