6 shot during altercation at trail ride gathering in Houston
Six people were shot during an altercation at a large gathering in northeast Houston, according to officials. Two of the victims are in critical condition.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday in the 11300 block of Homestead Road, in the parking lot of Big City Foods, a grocery store in a mostly residential area of northeast Houston, Texas, according to a spokesperson for the Houston Police Department.
Officers were in the area helping disperse a large crowd gathered for a trail ride when an altercation broke out and multiple people began shooting at each other.
“We don’t know at this time why the shooting occurred, but we do know that so far we have six victims that were shot and transported,” the spokesperson said during a briefing.
Officers immediately rendered aid to three of the victims before the Houston Fire Department transported them to area hospitals, police said. The other three victims transported themselves to hospitals.
Police said two victims are in critical condition: an adult male believed to be about 20 years old and a juvenile believed to be about 15 years old. Four others are listed in stable condition: a 16-year-old juvenile, a 20-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, and a 22-year-old woman.
No information was released on suspects or arrests. Police asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults Division.
